5 Ways to Make the Most of Your Time Indoors

Now that we’re all spending more time indoors, it may feel as if there isn’t much to do. Whether you consider yourself an introvert (you’re relishing in the quarantine) or you’re more of an extrovert (you’re longing to see your friends or to go out for a drink at your usual haunt), we can all agree that we’re on the same boat. Even introverts are grasping at straws when it comes to finding ways to spend their time. If you’re in the El Paso area, then you’re aware that even the parks (including hiking trails) have closed down to the public. If you feel as if there’s nothing to do, take a look at the tips we’ve compiled below.

Workout from Home

One of the saddest realities about quarantine is that we’re not supposed to go outside, except for necessary tasks such as getting groceries or visiting the doctor. If you’re a regular at the gym or you’re starting to get tired of this newfound stagnation, then we’ve got a great option for you! There are countless of workout videos available online for you to choose from. If you have a television with internet capabilities, you can even play the workout on your big screen! And you don’t have to worry about not having the right equipment since many of these videos don’t require any equipment. You can just take a 15-minute break from your daily qua-routine to exercise for a bit.

According to many health journals, working out regularly can actually improve your mental health! Since exercise releases chemicals like endorphins and serotonin, you can improve your mood from the comfort of your home. If you’re really hankering for some fresh air, then you can go for a light jog around the neighborhood. Thankfully, this is still allowed under the current quarantine guidelines. Just make sure to stay six feet away from everyone and, if possible, wear a face mask with a filter!

Play Video Games

Video games are great ways to escape our current reality and enter a plethora of different lands. Whether it’s rescuing a princess from an evil lizard-dragon creature or building a small community on a deserted island, you have many options for escapism. Even if you’ve never considered yourself a “gamer,” you can still try it out and see if it’s for you. Now, thanks to the advancements in modern technology, our smartphones are able to play countless video games without any loss of quality. If you don’t own a home console, simply take a look at your App Store and check out the most popular games. Who knows, you might find your next great obsession!

This is also a great way to bond with your family and friends. Even if you’re unable to physically see your friends, you can still hang out with them digitally!  You can connect and play with friends over the internet and chat via speakerphone. It’ll be as if they’re right there in the room with you!

Now There’s Time to Read

How many times have you walked past that bookshelf only to feel guilty about the discrepancy between the books you own and the books you’ve read? I can’t be the only one! Now that we’re basically locked in for the foreseeable future is as good a time as any to finally become a book worm. You can read a few minutes each day to get your mind off of things or you can sit down and read for hours and hours. It’s up to you!

This can also serve as a great time to build up reading habits for your children. You can schedule daily reading time or you can even read to them out loud to make the whole experience all the more enjoyable and memorable. If you don’t have any books left to read, then reread your past favorites! Or, better yet, you could take up eBooks and audiobooks. There are many options out there for you to delve into, such as free trials and memberships.

Catch Up with Friends and Family, Digitally

One of the worst things about quarantine is the inability to see friends and family whenever we please. Thankfully, there are digital options available where we can see and speak with our friends and family. It may not be as close to actually seeing them in person, but it’s as close as we can get during this time. Planning weekly family nights or organizing a synchronized movie watch along with friends is possible. All you need is an internet connection, a webcam, and some earphones. Remember to check up on your friends, as well. A simple phone call can help anyone feel better. If you think of a friend or wonder how they’re doing, shoot them a text or call them up! Everyone’s feeling a bit strange during these times; you can restore a sense of normalcy by chatting and having a good time!
